The Eanes ISD Board of Trustees approved Laura Coaxum as Cedar Creek Elementary (CCE) principal at the April 27 board meeting. Coaxum, who will replace 2020-21 interim principal Brad Wirht, will take the helm for the 2021-22 school year.
The announcement followed a thorough process that included collecting stakeholder surveys and conducting candidate interviews with students, staff and parents. In total, more than 50 people were involved in the interviews and selection process.
“When interviewing for such an important position within a community, it is crucial we collect input from those on the campus - students, parents and staff,” said Dr. Tom Leonard, Superintendent. “We appreciate CCE’s patience over the past two years and we look forward to the valuable leadership and experience Laura brings to an already-exceptional school.”
“I am incredibly excited to join the Cedar Creek family and continue my journey in Eanes ISD,” said Coaxum. “CCE is an amazing school and I look forward to meeting everyone soon.”
Coaxum currently serves as assistant principal of Barton Creek Elementary in Eanes ISD. She began her career teaching kindergarten, first and fourth grades at Hill Elementary in Austin ISD. She also supported teachers as an instructional coach in Round Rock ISD before working in educator recruitment and development at the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
Coaxum earned a Master of Education from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Learning & Development with a minor in Childhood Studies from the University of Texas at Austin. She holds certifications in Principal (EC-12), English as a Second Language, Gifted & Talented and Generalist (EC-4).
Coaxum will plan a meet-and-greet event with students, staff and parents this summer.
