Eanes ISD

In-Person & Remote Learning Continue Jan. 5

Understandably, families are concerned about rising COVID-19 cases in the area. We have fielded numerous emails questioning if school will resume after Austin Public Health officials recommended (not ordered) middle schools and high schools should go 100% remote after winter break.

At this time, Eanes ISD will return as scheduled, with staff returning Jan. 4 and students returning Jan. 5. We will allow families the flexibility to self-quarantine their child(ren) up to 10 days, giving principals discretion to work with parents on returning after the holidays. If Eanes ISD were to go 100% remote at the secondary level, the Texas Education Agency has cited we would have to make up those days (which would likely extend the school year into June) or lose significant state funding.

If a family has opted for in-person learning for the third nine-week grading period but prefers to stay remote after the break (due to travel or caution), the family will need to communicate with their campus.

Since our schools opened in September, Eanes ISD has been committed to providing a safe and healthy learning environment; entering the second semester only reinforces those efforts to sustain and finish the school year. Our maintenance teams have thoroughly cleaned classrooms over winter break. Buses have been sanitized, as have all common areas.

We will continue our diligence to sustain a healthy school year and ask our staff and families to assist in this effort. Please continue to:

  • Wear a mask
  • Maintain at least six feet between you and people who are not in your household
  • Wash your hands frequently

If you test positive for COVID-19 during the winter break, please do not return to school on Monday, Jan. 4 (staff) or Tuesday, Jan. 5 (students) unless you have completed the 10-day isolation period and are no longer showing symptoms. Families should notify their child's principal of a positive case in writing. Campus staff should notify their principal and Human Resources; non-campus staff should contact Human Resources prior to returning.
