At the December 10, 2019 meeting, the Eanes ISD Board voted to continue and expand the District’s Spanish Immersion program to K-5 implementation at four of its six elementary schools. The vote was 7-0 in favor of the expansion.
The Board made the decision to continue what was a three-year pilot after almost two hours of public comment by parents, teachers and community members.
The Spanish Immersion pilot was implemented in 2017 in two schools (Bridge Point Elementary, Cedar Creek Elementary) beginning with Kindergarten. The program was expanded to two additional schools (Barton Creek Elementary, Eanes Elementary) one year later.
Currently, two elementary schools offer Spanish Immersion K-2 and two schools offer K-1. The program will now eventually expand K-5 to all four participating elementary schools. Beginning next school year, as students matriculate through the program, two schools will implement the program in third grade.
