Board of Trustees Highlights
An Update from the Eanes ISD Board of Trustees
Superintendent's Report
February's Board meetings included finalizing details on a May bond and then calling for a bond election to be held May 4th. The Board reviewed the Spanish Immersion program pilot and District operations including enrollment, staffing and budget. The Board also called for a trustee election for places 4, 6 and 7, which will also take place May 4th.

See a synopsis of the February meetings below. Full Board agenda packets are online.
Board Calls May 2019 Bond
The Board called an $80 million bond election to be held on May 4, 2019. The proposed bond requires no tax rate increase and includes projects under safety & security, student programs & support, energy efficiency & conservation and facilities. The Board voted to include instructional, co-curricular and extra-curricular spaces for the Aquatics, Robotics and Wrestling programs but decided the bonds for such facilities would not be issued until proper permitting and construction design are defined. Board Calls May 2019 Trustee Election
Eanes ISD will hold a trustee election on Saturday, May 4, 2019. Three board positions are up for election this year:
  • Place 4 -- UNEXPIRED TERM.  This position is vacant due to a resignation and will be up for election for the remainder of the term (two years).
  • Place 6 -- Currently held by Colleen Jones, Ph.D. (Full three-year term)
  • Place 7 -- Currently held by Ellen Balthazar (Full three-year term)
School Board positions are at-large positions, which means each trustee represents the entire school district. Thus, all Eanes ISD registered voters may vote once for each Place on the ballot.
Spanish Immersion Pilot Continues
The Board heard an update on the second year of a five-year Spanish Immersion program pilot at four elementary schools. While recruiting and retaining Spanish Immersion teachers has been a challenge, the program has seen successes with students progressing in learning the Spanish language and cultural experiences. The administration's recommendation is to continue the pilot as-is and not expand to other elementary schools.

State Performance Report Presented
The Board reviewed the Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR), a state report that provides districts and community members with extensive information on student performance data broken down by sub-populations, grade levels and tests.

Board Reviews District Operations
The Board heard updates on enrollment, staffing and the budget as part of an operational report.

The enrollment report reviewed current 2018-19 enrollment by school, including transfer students, compared with projected enrollment and out-of-district transfers beginning with 2019-20. The report also gave a recommendation to shift the attendance planning zone 12C from Eanes Elementary to Bridge Point Elementary.

The staffing report showed the District's plans to adjust staffing levels to demographic projections and recommendations from a Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) study.

The budget report showed the 2018-19 year will end with a balanced budget and pointed to factors such as the legislative session, enrollment and taxable assessed value to influence the multi-year strategic budgeting.
