An Update from the Eanes ISD Board of Trustees
Superintendent's Report
As we enter Thanksgiving Break, I want to share my gratitude for this wonderful school district and generous community. Thank you to everyone who makes Eanes ISD a great place to live, work, learn and play. I hope you have a restful break.

In November, our Board heard reports on the formation of two district-level committees, the official enrollment report for 2019-20, new course proposals at Westlake High School and more. The Board also heard its first presentation on Golden Pennies, which, as a result of new legislation, could bring additional non-recapturable revenue to the district.

See a synopsis of the November meetings below. Full Board agenda packets are online.
Board Reviews Possible Election For Golden Pennies
The Board reviewed information on new legislation that allows the District to access additional golden pennies by holding an election similar to the District's 2017 Tax Ratification Election. The 2017 TRE gave Eanes ISD $3 million of non-recapturable funds to the District's operating budget. HB3 allows school districts to have up to 8 unrecaptured golden pennies; Eanes ISD currently has 6 golden pennies which was the maximum allowed under the previous law. The addition of 2 golden pennies would provide an additional $3.5 million to the District's general fund in the 2020-21 school year and would grow each year at the same rate as the tax base.

Enrollment Report
The Board reviewed the official "snapshot" of Eanes ISD's 2019-20 enrollment, which was reported to the Texas Education Agency's (TEA) Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS). The official enrollment is 8,165, within 0.3-percent of the projected 8,186. The number includes 361 out-of-district transfers.

Technology Advisory Committee Formed
The Board discussed commissioning a new Eanes ISD Technology Advisory Committee (TAC). This committee will replace the former Digital Learning Taskforce (DLTF) and will provide input, guidance and support for the District's technology initiatives, projects and eventually device selection through short-and long-term technology plans. The application for TAC community members closed November 19; the committee members will be selected and notified in December and the first committee meeting will be held in January.

Safety & Security Committee Formed
The Board heard the District's plans to create a safety and security committee, which is now a requirement of school districts. The committee will include representatives of local emergency management, law enforcement and district personnel, board members and parents from the District's School Safety & Health Advisory Committee (SSHAC). Duties include consulting with local law enforcement on how to increase law enforcement presence near district campuses and providing recommendations regarding the District's multi-hazard emergency operations plan.
