Christy Rome from the Texas School Coalition presented an update on the legislative session. The board also reviewed and approved the District Improvement Plan (DIP) which will roll into campus improvement plans.
We also welcomed and introduced three new assistant principals for the 2019-20 school year and plan to announce a fourth AP in May.

New Assistant Principals Introduced
Three assistant principals were introduced at the April 23 meeting. The new positions are a result from a Texas Association of School Boards audit and recommendation to add assistant principals at elementary schools that did not have them. Welcome Michael Buthe (Forest Trail Elementary), Holly Reid (Cedar Creek Elementary) and Brandis Smoland (Valley View Elementary). The AP for Barton Creek Elementary will be announced in May.
2019-20 Budget Development
With several unknowns for the 2019-20 budget, including proposed legislation that could affect school districts' funding, the board was presented budget scenarios to prepare for upcoming budget decisions. The presentation also confirmed that for the first time in several years, the District will have a balanced budget for the 2018-19 school year.
2019-20 Enrollment Projections
In general, enrollment for 2019-20 is tracking with projections. As of April 18, current total enrollment for next year stands at 8,110,  versus the original projection of 8,186. In comparison, the official enrollment for the current 2018-19 school year is 8,132, based on the final Friday in October 2018, as reported to the Texas Education Agency. Out-of-district transfer students for 2019-20 will likely be around 320, down from the current school year of 372.
