Foreign Exchange Students
The Eanes ISD foreign exchange program provides international students the opportunity to learn about the history and literature of the United States, to become more fluent in both written and spoken English, and to engage in extracurricular, social, and cultural public school experiences.
The District has applied for a waiver from the Texas Education Agency to limit the number of foreign exchange students to a maximum of five (5) students per year. Acceptance is on a first-come/first-serve basis after all the requirements have been met and for a full school year (August - May). There is not a waitlist for enrollment.
Please note the following guidelines:
-
The Foreign Exchange Organization must be listed in the latest Council on Standards for International Educational Travel advisory list.
-
Foreign Exchange Organization student application forms and all required documentation (including the student’s official transcript translated into English) must be received by the Student Services Department no later than June 15 prior to the academic year for which acceptance is being requested. Submit the application and accompanying documentation to hsauer@eanesisd.net.
-
The foreign exchange student is responsible for providing immunization records (with the month/date/year) in English. View Texas immunization requirements.
-
Any cost for student records required by the Foreign Exchange Organization or home country is the responsibility of the foreign exchange student.
-
The Foreign Exchange Organization’s acceptance form will not be signed until all materials have been evaluated and the student is approved for enrollment.
-
The host family must reside in the Eanes ISD attendance zone. Falsification of a student record is a felony in the state of Texas; a foreign exchange student will be withdrawn immediately if the host family falsifies information regarding their home address.
-
Once the Foreign Exchange Organization acceptance form has been signed by an Eanes ISD administrator, the Eanes ISD host family (not an Organization’s area representative) must enroll the foreign exchange student. Host families who complete the online enrollment process prior to receiving approval will have the student’s enrollment denied.
-
An admitted foreign exchange student has the same rights and privileges as Eanes students and is held accountable for their actions. This includes being enrolled in a full schedule and participating fully in class; being subject to district attendance, discipline, and grading policies; and taking STAAR End of Course exams for designated classes.
-
The foreign exchange student’s transcript will be evaluated to determine their grade level and course placement. Students will not be enrolled as 12th graders unless they intend to graduate from Westlake High School, have earned enough credits from their home country to be classified as such, and can complete all graduation requirements.
-
Coaches and sponsors of extracurricular activities are responsible for obtaining and evaluating proper credentials to determine a foreign exchange student’s eligibility for participation in UIL activities.
