Educational Impact Awards

Those who display leadership and commitment to the district by making a positive, noticeable and significant impact.

Ms. Rachael Howard, Ms. Elizabeth Harpine, Ms. Trinh Phi, and Ms. Angela Maldonado
The campus support specialist team at EE truly exemplifies a commitment to making a positive and significant impact on student learning. Each member of the team goes above and beyond to support student growth both academically and emotionally. They are dedicated to their professional growth and seek out opportunities to continue learning within their field. Each member of this team demonstrates professionalism in Student Support Team meetings by being knowledgeable about their students, about grade level content and expectations, and with their ability to support classroom teachers with suggestions and support for in-class interventions. The CSS Team is comprised of "yes" women who never say no to any task which will help the students and teachers that they serve. We are fortunate to have them on our campus.

Ms. Jennifer Garcia
Ms. Garcia represents the type of educational advocate that every parent would want to have for his or her child. In every instance, she assumes that each and every student can meaningfully participate in a lesson or activity. She is proactive to take steps to get information about the activity and contact those who can help the student participate in the activity at the best of his/her level. She is not shy to say "you can do that" to a student, or "he or she can do that" to a teacher. She has a big heart and lots of determination to go with it. She encourages her students to participate to the best of their abilities. She is always looking out for opportunities for her students to participate in every activity and feel included. She is dedicated to the integrity, independence and success of all children. Eanes is blessed to have her as part of our team.

Ms. Reshmi Johnson
Ms. Johnson is currently working toward a master's degree in education and at the same time, is working on her Wilson Reading certification. This year, she has participated in a special education district-led initiative to improve math instruction to students with special needs. She goes the extra mile to meet the many demands of the district and parents while preparing quality lessons for math instruction. Her classroom functions like clockwork with built-in routines and lessons that provide circular review, inspire confidence and student willingness to take risks. Her classroom management and data collection systems are first-rate and so is she!

Ms. Jane Roetman
Ms. Roetman is an incredibly hard working TA who has served the students of Eanes Elementary for many years. This year, she undertook the difficult task of moving from PPCD to life skills midway through the school year. Ms. Roetman accepted this challenge with grace and a growth mindset. She treats all students with respect and warmth, and she is calm even in the face of difficult behaviors. She is constantly collaborating with our team and looking for ways to help students grow. Ms. Roetman has great insights into the needs of her students, and many of her suggestions this year have helped students reach their fullest potential. Our students have learned so much this year because of her!

Ms. Lopez brings the most incredible positive attitude, pleasant personality, and sense of humor to make EE a better place. She loves and respects each student she meets and she has saved many a teacher with her willingness to sub at the last minute. She has a bag of teaching tricks that make her extra resourceful when subbing for both general education and special education classes. Ms. Lopez has been our inspiration for over 10 years. She is our hero and the hero of many at Eanes Elementary.

Ms. Gina Palermo
Ms. Palermo consistently goes above and beyond bandaging up bumps and bruises. She makes every student feel like they are the most important person in the world. She validates every student's needs, provides excellent individual care, and listens to each student's concerns. Ms. Palermo is more than a nurse to our students - she is a mentor, a friend, a healer, a counselor, and so much more. She is a hero to many of us on staff and for the students she cares for every day. She always gives 100% supporting students and staff alike. She is incredibly flexible and compassionate.

On STEAM Day, she can be found zipping from one presentation to another, assisting presenters, learning with students, and making sure the day runs smoothly. Ms. Sloss is an integral part of inspiring student learning in STEAM on this special day and beyond.

Good Samaritan Award

Those who display compassion, selflessness, or courage by taking initiative

Ms. Jennifer Brinkman
Ms. Brinkman cares about the community of Eanes Elementary, ut also encourages teachers and students to take pride in their campus. She has spent time after school, on weekends or days off weeding, and beautifying neglected flowerbeds around our playgrounds. She has encouraged, inspired, and educated PPCD students on how to care for our learning spaces. Many students like to help her beautify the campus. After the PPCD Garden was gifted to us by an Eagle Scout, Ms. Brinkman has since played a big role in improving the garden every year. She doesn't do these things for herself, she does them for others. She wants others to appreciate the beauty in small, ordinary things the way she appreciates them.

Ms. Sang McDonnell
Ms. McDonnell co-chaired the Mustang Mixer this year which raised funds for our PTO. She spends countless hours volunteering each week in the classrooms. She has organized first grade events this year including school parties, outside school gatherings, projects, and even drove to Bastrop to pick up our eggs for chick hatching. Ms. McDonnell also volunteers in Kindergarten weekly for their writing workshop. She is truly helpful in so many ways and always has a smile and positive spirit. Eanes Elementary is lucky to have such a wonderful volunteer!

Innovation Award

Those who implement a creative or innovative program, teaching method, cost-savings, etc.

Ms. Cathi Brown and Erin Krieger
Ms. Krieger and Ms. Brown have invested endless hours delving into the theory behind and the specifics of The World Peace Game: a hands-on political simulation that gives players the opportunity to explore the connectedness of the global community through the lens of the economic, social, and environmental crises and the imminent threat of war. They attended a Master Class with the creator of the game and on their return, they launched into the work of making it happen on our campus. They dove into collecting the hundreds of pieces of the multi-layer game frame and with the help of a parent, Mr. Eric Wright, they assembled the necessary structure in time for a group of 5th Graders to begin the game before the end of the year. Their efforts will benefit our students for many years to come.

Ms. Carolyn Grant
Mrs. Grant has dedicated an tremendous amount of time and devotion to embracing inclusivity and global awareness for our campus community. The impact of Heritage Day on our entire community of learners is immense, and her commitment to the "Wonder", "Learn", and "Grow" theme is embedded throughout the weeklong experience leading up to the culminating campus-wide celebration. Mrs. Grant's innovation, courage, and creativity make her an exceptional candidate for receiving this district honor. We are so grateful to have her as a vital member of our Eanes Elementary family.
