Scope of work

Fall 2024

November 2024

  • The Technology Advisory Committee (TAC) began review of LMS candidates, starting with a detailed discussion of what an LMS is and what benefits it will provide to our district. Committee members broke into small groups to conduct an high-level review of the major LMS platforms and reconvened to share feedback and develop a list of priorities.

December 2024

  • Using feedback from TAC, the technology team created an evaluation rubric, conducted initial demos with the list of candidates, and ruled out those that didn’t meet the requirements.

January 2025

  • The TAC had two meetings in January to participate in demos from the remaining candidates and rate them according to a checklist. After discussing and submitting feedback, the final candidates were narrowed down to two: Canvas and Schoology. The demos and feedback forms were posted online for any committee members unable to attend.

February 2025

  • The Middle School Technology Focus Group met to watch a demo of both platforms, test out the sandbox environments and complete task cards, and submit ratings and feedback. Their feedback was used to create a heat map of their scores for each platform.
  • The TAC demos, sandbox account logins, and feedback forms were posted on the LMS Adoption site.
  • In-person demonstrations of Canvas were conducted at Westlake High School for students and staff on the Campus Leadership Team and any staff who wanted to attend. Attendees were given directions to the sandboxes and asked to submit feedback on their experiences interacting with the platforms.

March 2025

  • In-person demonstrations of Schoology took place for the WHS Campus Leadership Team and any staff who wished to attend on 3/13.
  • The technology team visited staff meetings at the elementary schools and PLCs at the middle schools to update staff on the LMS project, answer questions, and invite their participation in the sandbox review process.

April-May 2025

  • Reviewed scores and feedback from TAC, focus groups, demonstrations, and sandbox users to evaluate which platform best meets the needs of the district and make a recommendation to the School Board.
  • Official recommendation made to adopt Canvas, approved by the School Board.

Summer 2025

  • Finalized plan for Early Adopter group to begin using Canvas in January 2026.
