Shout out to the West Ridge Middle School DI Dynamites, who finished 3rd in the world and the Forest Trail Elementary Fabulous Falcons who finished 10th in the world at the Destination Imagination, Inc. Global Finals!
Destination Imagination (DI) participants learn and experience the creative process from imagination to innovation, as they:
- recognize a challenge
- imagine solutions
- initiate a plan
- collaborate with teammates
- assess progress and re-adjust as needed
- evaluate results
- share and celebrate at a tournament!
Students in grades K-12 select one out of a possible seven open-ended challenges. They work in teams of up to 7 kids, under the guidance of one or two Team Managers, to find solutions while operating within a budget and a timeline! Based on the concept of divergent thinking - that there is more than one way to solve a problem – DI challenges students to build on their strengths and improve skills in a variety of ways. 21st century skills of collaboration, communication, creative thinking, and critical thinking are a focus as students work on the elements of this
