High School Accelerated Academics
9th - 12th Grade Acceleration
Single Subject Acceleration
By Exams
9th - 12th Grade Single Subject Acceleration By EXAMS
Credit-by-Exam (CBE) for acceleration is offered (and paid for) quarterly by Eanes ISD; only students enrolled in EISD for the previous school year are eligible to register. The passing score for CBE for acceleration is 90%. Students scoring below this standard are allowed to retest one time by registering and paying independently. Scores must be received by the 10th day of the school year in order for a student’s course schedule to be adjusted. Eligibility for a specific CBE subject may depend on grade level and/or on completion of prerequisite courses. [EHDC (Legal) and (Local); EIC (Legal) and (Local); District of Innovation Plan; Student Handbook]
Grades earned for these courses will appear on the high school transcript, but will not be calculated in the student’s grade point average (GPA). Some Westlake courses have grade level and/or subject prerequisites; review the Course Catalog before deciding to take a CBE for acceleration.
Dates of Exams: December, March, June, and July
Registration: CBE Application (Completed by Family)
Testing Information/Logistics: An Email will be sent to the student’s parent/guardian 2 weeks before the date of the assessments.
Results: Will be reported to the campus and if class changes are needed they will be done at the campus.
Math
Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra & PreCalculus
Students are not eligible for a CBE until prerequisites have been met. For example, a student cannot request a PreCalculus CBE until credit for Algebra 2 has been earned.
Caution is advised in math acceleration as there is a finite number of math courses offered, and students are best served by having math in their schedule throughout high school.
View the 5th -12th Math Parent Handbook.
Science
IPC, Physics & Environmental Systems
Westlake 9th graders are enrolled in Biology and 10th graders are enrolled in Chemistry or IPC. Students wishing to take a CBE for acceleration can choose from IPC, Physics, or Environmental Systems. A CBE does not count as a lab-based science credit and does not meet the prerequisites for AP courses.
Students with a deep interest in science are best served by enrolling in the Westlake courses offered; juniors and seniors can choose to enroll in multiple science courses.
Social Studies
US History is an EOC-tested subject; students who earn US History A & B credit through CBE are exempt from taking the EOC.
Government and Economics are senior-level courses; credit earned through CBE must be completed prior to the spring semester of senior year. CBE credit cannot be awarded between January and May of the graduating year; the student will need to enroll in the course at Westlake.
World Language
See below.
Health/PE
For seniors, Health and PE (Lifetime Fitness and Wellness) credits earned through CBE must be completed prior to the spring semester of senior year. CBE credit cannot be awarded for credit earned between January and May of the graduating year; the student will need to enroll in the course at Westlake.
Online Correspondence Course
9th - 12th Grade Single Subject Acceleration through ONLINE CORRESPONDENCE COURSES
Credits are accepted from Texas Tech K-12 and UT high school programs. These courses are not paid for by the District. Scores must be received by the 10th day of the school year in order for a student’s course schedule to be adjusted. The passing standard is 70% and Eanes students are limited to earning a total of two high school credits. Grades earned in these courses will appear on the high school transcript, but will not be calculated in the student’s grade point average (GPA). Some Westlake courses have grade level and/or subject prerequisites; review the Course Catalog before deciding to take an online course. Learn more here.
