Students and Staff Honored at January Board Meeting

  • Westlake HS AP Physics teachers Mr. Mark Misage, Ms. Nancy Misage, Ms. Madelyn Percy and Mr. Bob Witowski were recognized for their outstanding work and for the successful program they have built. Their students are achieving amazing scores on state and international tests. For example,
    • Westlake students took three percent of the AP Physics B exams in Texas, which earned 11.7 percent of the 5's, or top scores, in Texas. They also earned 0.7 percent of the 5's in the world! 
    • WHS students took 3.1% of the Mechanics exams in Texas and earned 9.3% of Texas 5's and 0.6% of World 5's!
    • WHS students took 5.7% of the E&M exams in Texas and earned 15.5% of Texas 5's and 1.3% of World 5's!

 

  • January is School Board Recognition Month and the seven board members who serve the district and work tirelessly to lead our students to success were recognized. School board members shoulder crucial responsibilities as advocates for our children and face difficult challenges with the overall goal of promoting student achievement. The District is grateful for all of the work the board puts into keeping Eanes at the forefront of excellence every year and commissioned some exceptional elementary student-artists to create some beautiful artwork for the Trustees.

 

  • Congratulations to 10 West Ridge Middle School Future City Engineering teams, who competed at the Regional competition at Texas State University last weekend. Only one team per school advances to the Finals Round, and Team “Aeterna” won First Place during the final round of the event!  They will now advance to Washington, DC in February to compete against the top teams from around the country. Members are Nicky Truong, Akshay Prakash, Selina Eshraghi, Zac Frost, Ben Gorr and Nina Gorr.
     
    Several other WRMS teams won Special Award trophies during the competition, including: Best Essay, Best Presentation, Best Future City Model, Best Futuristic Design, Most Earth Friendly Design, and Best Virtual City Design. Congratulations to Ms. Carol Reese and these incredible students and we wish them the best at Nationals.

 

  • Three students at West Ridge Middle School were recently recognized in the Patriot’s Pen Writing Contest sponsored by VFW Post 4443.  Matthew Kearney won first place, Stephanie Ruiz won second place and Cullen Claghorn won third place.  Students were honored for their essays answering the question, “Are you proud of your country?”  The VFW members read 28 essays from West Ridge, and were impressed with ALL of our students. 

 

  • Last weekend, Westlake HS had 18 students qualify for Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) State competition, which will be held in March in San Antonio. Congratulations to:

  • Several Westlake HS students were recognized at the 2012 Scholastic Art and Writing Competition last weekend, including 14 Gold Key winners, 10 Silver Key winners and 10 Certificate of Merit winners. The students were recognized for their artwork in digital art, drawings, films, mixed media works, paintings, photographs, and sculptures.

  • Forest Trail ESL teacher Cynthia Lueck was awarded the prestigious “Members in Print Award” by Delta Kappa Gamma. The award was given for her published article, “ESL Parent’s Perceptions Matter”, published in the Delta Kappa Gamma International Bulletin.
