Preschool Aged Peer Models Needed - Updated
The Eanes Independent School District Special Education Program is looking for typically-developing children ages 3.5 (by June 2012) to 5 to serve as Peer Models in our Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities (PPCD) for the 2012 – 2013 school year. The PPCD classes provide early intervention services for children with disabilities through language-based child-centered activities.
All students are taught pre-school curriculum by a certified teacher in the areas of literacy, numeracy, language, socialization, and independence skills through thematic units. The curriculum being used is Handwriting Without Tears for Language, Literacy and Math and Windows on Literacy (National Geographic) for Science.
The Peer Models should have age appropriate verbal, behavioral, social, and self-help skills (including being toilet-trained) and will be selected based on their interactions with staff and other children.
The Peer Models Program will run from 7:45 – 1:45, Monday – Friday. Students enrolled in this program will be assigned to a variety of special education classes and also to an inclusive pre-school class. The Peer Models Program follows the Eanes ISD school year calendar.
The classes are at Eanes Elementary, and parents will be required to provide transportation to and from the program.
If you are interested in having your child attend the Peer Models Program, please contact Ann Roland in the special education office to obtain an application. Following the processing of applications, children will participate in a screening process that consists of an interactive play session. The screenings will take place throughout the summer. Exact times and locations to follow. Spaces are limited.
The tuition for attending the program will be $500 per month. The program is a 9 month program.
