Notice of Destruction of Special Education Program Records
Special education records which have been collected by the Eanes Independent School District (EISD) related to the identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of special education services in the district, must be maintained under state and federal laws for a period of five (5) years after special education services have ended for the student.
This notification is to inform parents/guardians/adult students and former students of EISD’s intent to destroy inactive special education records from the 2006-07 school year. These records will be destroyed in accordance with state law on June 15, 2012 unless the parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student notifies EISD otherwise.
After five years, the records are no longer used by EISD, but they may be useful to the parent/guardian or former student in applying for Social Security benefits, rehabilitation services, college entrance, etc.
Parents/guardians or eligible (adult) students may request to review or receive copies of the records in writing or by contacting Eanes at the following: EISD Special Education Offices, 601 Camp Craft Rd., Austin Texas, 78746, (512) 732-9021. Proof of identity will be required.
Requests for copies must be received by May 31, 2012. Copies will be provided at the cost of 10 cents per page.
