Lunch is served daily to include a selection of fruits, vegetables, main courses, bread and milk. Students are encouraged to try different foods and to use the cafeteria as a learning laboratory for making nutritious choices. The menus are planned using the National School Lunch Program guidelines for a traditional meal pattern. The menus are sent home every month and are also available on the Eanes ISD website, www.eanesisd.net.

Parents can pre-pay for their students' meals in several ways, including:

1. On-line payments
2. Cash or checks taken directly to the cafeteria
   
3. Checks mailed to: Eanes ISD, Department of Child Nutrition, 601 Camp Craft Road, Austin, TX 78746.
   

The cafeterias operate on a computerized accounting system. Each student has a debit account once money is deposited in the account. To deposit money in the account, send a check made payable to “EISD Child Nutrition”. The student’s hand will be stamped “need lunch $” when the account is $5.00 or less. It is important that the parent monitor the account balance to prevent the account from having a negative balance. A cheese sandwich and milk will be offered to the student at no charge if the account is in the deficit by more than $5.00. Positive balances are carried over to the next year. Any negative balances must be paid prior to the end of the school year. Charges will not be allowed the last two weeks of the spring term. To purchase items, the student enters their confidential pin number (the student’s ID) into the pin pad and the cashier will enter the purchases into the system

We Recommend that parents periodically access their student's lunch account statements via Family Access to review purchases and discuss appropriate food choices with the student.  Account statements may also be requested by contacting the Director of Child Nutrition. Student accounts may be restricted (example: must purchase meal daily) by sending a student account restriction form, signed by the parent, to the cafeteria manager describing the restriction. Student account restriction forms are available on the internet at the Eanes I.S.D. web site or from your cafeteria manager.

What is the composition of a “meal”?

The five meal components are: 2 oz. Meat, 1 svg bread or alternate, 8 oz. Milk, and 2 different type svgs. fruits or 2 different type svgs. vegetables or 1 svg. fruit + 1 svg vegetable. Often, additional servings of bread are included in the meal at no additional charge. The meal components for each day are listed on the printed menu. Students in grades k-3 will receive a set tray with all five components, while students in the 4th and 5th grade may select a minimum of three or a maximum of all five components. The additional entree may be substituted for the main Entrée. Baked Potatoes with cheese are always available as an Entrée. A la Carte items are also available for purchase at an additional cost.

The cost of student meals are: Elementary - $2.75; Middle School - $3.25; High School - $3.50. The cost for an adult meal is $3.50. We encourage parents to visit their children for lunch and sample the food that is served.
